serious business

Anand and I were sharing a ice cream cone at Ikea. Here and there, we let August take a bite. Suddenly, August lunged for the cone with both hands. But I wouldn't let her take it because she'd make a mess. I offered her another bite, but she refused with an emphatic "no!" She lunged for the cone again. We did this a few times. Oh well, more for me and Anand. Then, it dawned on me, this was a true test of will power. She wanted the ice cream, but refused to eat any of it unless she could have the whole cone. It was all or nothing. Impressed by her ambition, I gave her the cone. Anand was amused that she proceeded to eat the entire cone with a deadly serious expression on her sugary face.
