Mine

August is 14 months old and spends her time at daycare in the infant room. Yesterday was August's first 1 hour visit to the toddler room. There, she had this conversation with 22 month old Elise.

Elise plays with wooden toy while August crawls up to her. August grabs Elise's toy and they both tug on the toy.
Elise: Mine!
August looks at Elise silently, but continues to tug
Elise: Mine!
Elise pulls harder and frees her toy from August's grasp. August gives Elise one last look before crawling away. A minute later, August returns and again grabs Elise's toy.
August: Mine!
Elise: Not yours! Mine!
Elise again frees her toy from August.

You can guess what word August is enthusiastic about today.

She actually seems to understand some of the power of the word - she uses with diverse objects - cookies, toys - that she knows have other names. She also points at herself and brings the object towards herself when she says "mine".
