kite
August had her first kite flying experience today. She was completely giddy. She couldn't decide which way to run. She kept yelling, "Grab kite!" "Grab kite!" She's so much fun now compared to her early days when all she did was eat & poop. Those days went by fast, but they were also slow and soul-crushing. If everyone was truthful about how much the first year of having a kid sucks for the mom, our country's growth rate would plummet and the government would have to institute a huge incentive program to ensure that our country had enough kids to be tomorrow's workers. I'm not sure how I'll ever talk myself into having a second kid. Labor and the birth itself was pretty cool and not even as painful as a period. But the party was pretty much over right after the birth. Bleeding and scabby nipples. Sucked. 40 minute feeding sessions, 8 times day and night. Sucked. Painful sitting. Sucked. No time alone for 18 mont

Actually, when you have a second kid sometimes you get a little time alone even before 2 years because the second will follow around the oldest (instead of you) from time to time. But it's even harder to get sleep because their sleep schedules tend not to overlap very well. But I know what you mean--the kids get a lot more fun when they can actually express themselves and do stuff around age 2. The temper gets worse around 2 (usually) but other things get a lot better. 4 is a great age--wait and see!

Hmmm, let me get this straight. With 2 kids, I'll get more time to do stuff around the house, but I'll be too tired and sleep-deprived to take advantage of it? Also, if you think 4 years is a great age but my other friend says 6 is great age, is it possible that August will just skip over the great age period entirely? If you're trying to persuade me to have another, you're going to have to try harder. Maybe you can resort to lying. That worked on me the first time around.
the second one really is a lot better . . . and easier, although your total free time will still decrease. labor was much better the second time around. nursing was better. no bleeding or scabby nipples. the second one also sleeps more and just requires less attention. the second one also tends to be more mellow. i'm hoping the third one will be even less work since i really won't have that much time to devote to it.
So you're saying that the total free time decreases further with the second kid but there's no bloody nipples from breastfeeding. Not only am I still not convinced to have another, but you've also invalidated the hopes of future parents who thought I was just breastfeeding incorrectly. Aren't we supposed to be keeping this stuff secret to ensure the survival of the human race?
